About Us

I want, and am very sure that all my artisan sisters want our inherited traditional work to live after them and in SEWA we can do that. We are determined to work our craft till our eyes stop supporting us and we stop breathing life and then our children will continue after us because we have toiled very hard establishing our own organization SEWA and our own company the SEWA Trade Facilitation Centre, which has worried for us and been with us in our days of joy and sorrow equally and supported us to re-establish ourselves and prosper

- Rudiben Jivabhai Rava, Artisan Shareholder

The SEWA Trade Facilitation Centre (STFC) represents a unique and innovative movement where marginalized artisans themselves are the producers, owners, shareholders and managers of their own company. STFC works a bridge linking these vulnerable informal workers with the global market by sustained, profitable, and efficient coordination of design, production, and marketing of traditional embroidery.

The goal of the STFC is to ensure that rural craftswomen in the informal sector have socio-economic security and full employment by building a grassroots’ business enterprise of the artisans.
